Incident Overview:

Amid continuous rainfall, the building, which was constructed just eight years ago, crumbled to the ground, trapping multiple residents inside. Horrifying visuals show large chunks of concrete slabs piled on top of each other, creating a mountain of rubble. Five families were inside the building at the time of the collapse, raising concerns about the number of people still trapped.

Rescue Operations:

Rescue teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been called in to assist local authorities. Visuals from the scene show officials climbing through the wreckage, searching for survivors. One woman has been pulled out alive, while rescue teams continue to work tirelessly to locate others.

Eyewitness Accounts:

Locals described the chaotic moments following the collapse, recounting how they rushed to the scene to help. The building, despite being relatively new, was reportedly in a dilapidated condition, with most flats vacant.

Official Statements:

  • Dr. Saurabh Parghi, Surat’s District Collector, stated: “A six-storey building collapsed. We rescued one woman a while ago. According to her, four or five more could be trapped inside. Teams of the NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into action. We are hopeful that we will be able to rescue the rest within a few hours.”
  • Surat’s Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot added: “We can hear their voices from inside the rubble. They will be rescued within an hour or two.”

Authorities have pledged to investigate the cause of the collapse, given the building’s relatively recent construction. The focus remains on rescuing those trapped and ensuring their safety.
