08.07.2024: In a shocking incident in Mumbai, a speeding BMW allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old son of a Shiv Sena leader, struck and killed a 45-year-old woman, Kaveri Nakhva, while she was on her scooter with her husband Pradip. The couple was returning from Sassoon Dock when the tragic accident occurred in Worli.

The Incident

On Sunday morning at 5:30 am, Mihir Shah, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, asked his driver, Rajendra Singh Bijawat, to take him on a long drive after a night of drinking in Juhu. Shah, who had been drinking heavily, insisted on taking over the wheel. Moments later, the BMW struck the Nakhvas’ scooter, throwing them into the air. While Pradeep managed to jump off the bonnet, Kaveri was dragged for 100 metres and succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.

Who Is Mihir Shah?

Mihir Shah is the son of Rajesh Shah, a prominent Shiv Sena leader from Maharashtra’s Palghar district. Despite his father’s political stature, Mihir’s education was limited to Class 10, after which he joined his father’s construction business in Maharashtra.

Attempt to Evade Arrest

Following the crash, Mihir Shah allegedly attempted to remove a Shiv Sena sticker from the car and took off its number plate to obscure its connection to his father. He abandoned the car in Bandra Kalanagar and fled the scene. Reports indicate that Shah called his father to inform him of the accident before switching off his phone. The police suspect that his girlfriend may have assisted him in evading capture.

Legal Consequences

Rajesh Shah, Mihir’s father, and the driver Rajendra Singh Bijawat were arrested for not cooperating with the police and other related charges. They are set to be produced in court today. The car involved in the accident was registered in Rajesh Shah’s name.

Worli police have registered a case against Mihir Shah, charging him with rash driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, endangering life, and various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Four police teams are currently conducting a manhunt to locate Mihir Shah.

What Happens Next?

The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to bring Mihir Shah to justice. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for swift action against those who flout the law with impunity. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
