UPSC: Path to Redemption for Ex-Serviceman After Facing Superior’s Insult

19.04.2024 : He was a police constable. He left the job after insulting his superiors. The former constable passed the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Very soon he is going to become a government official.

Udayakrishna Reddy from Prakasam district secured 780 rank in UPSC exam 2023. 30 years young man wants to become IAS. This former police constable quit his job and started his preparations with a new zeal. That’s where success comes in.

Why did you leave the job? Uday said that he was insulted by the Circle Inspector (CI) in 2018 in front of about 60 policemen. That day he said what was not.

Police drill was going on. Discipline lessons were being given to the policemen. Uday came late. Because of that, the superiors told him many things. But the humiliation started long ago.

Uday’s parents died when he was young. He grew up with his grandmother. Education in Telugu Medium Government School. Although he wanted to become an IAS, he could not afford it. He joined Andhra Pradesh Police in 2013. He was 19 years old then. He was the youngest in his batch.

Uday was preparing for the competitive exam in the gap between police jobs. That matter came to the ears of the circle inspector. Uday said that after hearing the matter, the CI abused him in various ways. Openly began to sneer.

Uday also said that he was supposed to go to Rajahmundry for an exam once. That time the CI deliberately appointed him on sentry duty. In this case, the policemen have to sit and guard in a small place outside the police station all night. Uday could not attend the exam due to that duty.

Uday said, “Whenever there was an opportunity or an exam, the CI would try to malign me in various ways, destroy my confidence. I have written to the Bureau of Police Research, Union Home Ministry regarding this.

CI used to criticize Uday in various ways. Again and again he should remember that he is a constable without dreaming.

On August 10, 2018, there was a police drill. Uday was late to join there. In his words, “CI used to torture me all the time. When to bully, look for opportunities. As I came late that day, the superior started insulting me in front of everyone. He said, “This sir will be IPS or IAS!”

CI did not stop there. Uday sought permission to attend the drill. It increased the level of gossip. In Uday’s words, “When I asked for permission to join, he kept saying everything. Punished for one hour. After that he said, don’t dream so much. You are only a constable.”

Uday could not accept this. He resigned from the job that day. Decided to start preparing for UPSC exam in full swing. Will be an IAS officer.

Uday did not get relief from that. CI did not accept his resignation letter. In Uday’s words, “CI threw away my resignation letter. He replied, “Are you scaring me?”

He took leave from the police station and started preparing for the UPSC exam. Get admission in a coaching center. Uday thanked the coaching teacher Sarat Chandra. He said that he would not have achieved this success today if not for Sarat Chandra.

A year after the resignation, Uday was sent a dissertation notice by the police. He said in the interview, “CI had formed a team to monitor me. In the general diary he is written as a deserter.

Despite all the hurdles, Uday passed the UPSC Prelims in 2019. He was declared ‘qualified’ for Mains. But before appearing in mains they have to submit the senior’s ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) on the website. Uday met Unit Officer Siddharth Kaushal for that NOC. He assured. Finally, Kaushal called the Home Ministry officials and requested them to consider the matter.

After that, Uday’s resignation was accepted. Although he did not succeed in Bar Mains Uday. After that, Uday failed two more times. He succeeded for the fourth time. Uday said that he studied for eight hours a day. Spent three hours working out in the gym. The rest of the time was spent with the three cats.

What does Uday want to do through IAS? He said in the interview that he wants to do something for the animals. Just as 108 calls emergency services like an ambulance to people, they want to launch a number where calls can also reach animals. They will be given rehabilitation, medical services.
