30.05.2024: A devastating bus accident in Jammu’s Akhnoor area has claimed the lives of at least 21 passengers and injured more than 40 others. The tragedy occurred on Thursday afternoon when the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge.

Details of the Accident

Jammu and Kashmir Transport Commissioner, Rajinder Singh Tara, reported that the bus driver was unable to negotiate a sharp turn, leading to the fatal accident. The bus, which was carrying a large number of passengers, lost control and rolled down into the gorge.

Casualties and Injuries

The J&K Police have confirmed that 21 passengers lost their lives in this tragic incident. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Sub District Hospital (SDH) in Akhnoor. Among the injured, seven have been admitted to SDH Akhnoor, while 40 others are receiving treatment at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu. A rescue operation is currently underway to assist any remaining survivors and manage the aftermath.
