03.05.2024: The Supreme Court has hinted at the possibility of granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with the money laundering case set for listing on May 7. This development comes as the court deliberates on a plea filed by Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Delhi Excise policy scam.
A Bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta expressed inclination towards considering interim bail for Kejriwal, citing the proximity of the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The timing of Kejriwal’s arrest, just a week after the Model Code of Conduct for the election took effect, has raised questions that the ED will need to address.
During the proceedings, Justice Sanjiv Khanna highlighted the significance of the Lok Sabha elections in the context of Kejriwal’s case and directed the Enforcement Directorate to be prepared for the potential consideration of interim bail.
This development underscores the legal and political dynamics surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest, with the Supreme Court weighing in on the matter amidst the electoral backdrop.
