20.05.2024: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud is receiving treatment for lung inflammation, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). This health update has prompted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to postpone his scheduled trip to Japan.

King Salman, 88, was diagnosed with lung inflammation following medical tests. He is currently being treated with antibiotics in Jeddah. The news has raised concerns and led to changes in the Crown Prince’s international commitments.

Due to King Salman’s health condition, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia, has canceled his planned visit to Tokyo. The Japanese Foreign Ministry announced that they would reschedule the trip for a later date.

On the same day, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Dhahran. They discussed regional developments, focusing on the conflict in Gaza, the necessity of halting the war, and exploring a credible path towards a two-state solution.

King Salman has faced health challenges in the past. He underwent gallbladder surgery in 2020 and has been the monarch since 2015, following the death of King Abdullah. In 2017, he appointed his son, Mohammed bin Salman, as Crown Prince, replacing Mohammed bin Nayef.
