17.04.2024 : In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the electoral bond scheme, labeling it as a means of “extortion” and the “biggest corruption scandal.” This statement comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling in February, which deemed the electoral bond scheme unconstitutional.
Speaking at a public event in Kozhikode, Rahul Gandhi lashed out at PM Modi, accusing him of defending corruption on a massive scale. He referenced PM Modi’s recent interview with ANI, where the Prime Minister defended the electoral bonds as a measure to combat black money in elections. Rahul Gandhi countered this by alleging that the BJP had extracted thousands of crores of rupees from Indian businessmen through extortion.
Union Minister and BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar retaliated, asserting that Rahul Gandhi, given his family’s history, is the last person who should discuss corruption.
Rahul Gandhi further criticized PM Modi’s diversionary tactics, claiming that the Prime Minister avoids addressing real issues such as unemployment and price rise. He accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to undermine and alter India’s Constitution, contrasting it with the Congress party’s efforts to safeguard it.
In addition to condemning the electoral bond scheme, Rahul Gandhi also criticized the Agnipath Yojana, labeling it as an insult to the Indian Army. He pledged to abolish the scheme and revert to the previous permanent recruitment process if the INDIA bloc comes to power after the Lok Sabha polls.
The Agnipath Yojana, designed to recruit Indian youth into the Armed Forces, has faced criticism for its implementation and impact on the Army’s recruitment processes. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks highlight the ongoing political discourse surrounding key issues ahead of the elections.
