30.05.2024: Prajwal Revanna, suspended JD(S) MP from Karnataka’s Hassan, is set to return to India on May 31 amid serious allegations of sexual abuse. The Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara, confirmed that Revanna would be arrested upon arrival by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Details of Revanna’s Return

According to reports, Prajwal Revanna has booked a business-class ticket on Lufthansa’s Munich-Bengaluru flight. The flight is expected to land at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at 1:30 am on May 31.

What Happens When Prajwal Revanna Lands?

A team from the SIT will be stationed at Kempegowda International Airport to arrest Prajwal Revanna as soon as he lands. Immigration officials will detain him and hand him over to the SIT due to a lookout notice against him.

Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has initiated action to revoke Revanna’s diplomatic passport. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “A show cause notice was issued to the passport holder on May 23, giving him ten working days to respond. We await a response and will take further action as per the rules.”

Consequences if Prajwal Revanna Does Not Return

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara warned that Revanna’s passport would be cancelled if he fails to land in India on May 31. The minister emphasized that Revanna would be arrested and face the full force of the legal process upon his return. He mentioned, “A warrant has been issued against him as per the law. It is the responsibility of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to execute this warrant.”

Minister Parameshwara added, “He (Prajwal) himself has said in the video statement that he will appear before SIT on May 31 at 10 am, not us. So I feel that he will come.” If Revanna does not come to India, the Karnataka government will request the Indian government to cancel his passport and seek Interpol’s assistance through the CBI.

Prajwal Revanna’s Sexual Abuse Allegations

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha segment, faces charges of sexually abusing multiple women. The allegations surfaced after several pen drives containing explicit videos involving Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on April 26.

Mass Protests in Hassan

The allegations have sparked widespread protests in Karnataka. Thousands participated in the ‘Hassan Chalo’ protest, demanding justice and accountability. The demonstrators, marching to the beat of drums, called for Revanna’s arrest and showed solidarity with the victims.

The march, titled ‘Namma Nadige, Hassanada Kadega’ (Our march towards Hassan), was led by the human rights collective ‘Naveddu Nilladiddare’ (If we don’t stand up). The event saw participation from various civil society groups, including women’s rights activists, labour activists, farmers, Dalit, and the LGBTQ+ community.
