Poll: Kamala Harris More Likely to Retain White House Than Biden

Harris vs. Biden: Democratic Dynamics

Newsx

03.07.2024: Amid rising voices within the Democratic Party urging President Joe Biden to step aside, a recent CNN poll suggests that Vice President Kamala Harris has a better chance of securing the White House in the upcoming November presidential elections.

Poll Insights

The CNN poll, conducted by SRS, indicates a challenging path for President Biden, whose approval rating has taken a hit following a lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump in Atlanta. Biden, now 81, trails Trump by six points according to the poll.

In a hypothetical matchup, Harris is closely trailing Trump, with 45% of registered voters supporting her compared to Trump’s 47%. This margin is within the poll’s error range, indicating no definitive leader. Harris’s stronger showing is attributed to her broader support among women and independents.

Key Poll Findings

  • Women Voters: 50% support Harris over Trump, compared to 44% for Biden against Trump.
  • Independent Voters: 43% back Harris, while only 34% support Biden.

Official Responses

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refrained from commenting directly on the poll results. She emphasized President Biden’s accomplishments and alignment with the majority of Americans, highlighting his experience and wisdom.

“What I can speak to is the president’s record. What I can speak to, what he’s been able to accomplish and the things that he’s been able to do and get done is actually in line with majority of Americans. And I think that’s important too, to note,” Jean-Pierre stated.

Michelle Obama’s Impact

Interestingly, former First Lady Michelle Obama leads Trump by 11 points in an Ipsos poll, garnering 50% support to Trump’s 39%. However, her office confirmed she will not be running for president this year.

Democratic Party’s Next Steps

As the November 5 presidential elections approach, the Democratic Party faces crucial decisions. The calls for Biden to step down and let another candidate, possibly Harris, lead the race are growing louder. The party’s strategy and candidate selection will play a pivotal role in their bid to retain the White House.
