Political Shake-Up: Pappu Yadav, Danish Ali, and Chowdhary Lal Singh Join Congress!
Former five-term Lok Sabha member Pappu Yadav, suspended BSP MP Danish Ali, and former J&K minister Chowdhary Lal Singh have recently joined the Congress party, along with other notable political figures.
On March 20, several prominent leaders officially joined the Congress party, including former five-time MP Pappu Yadav from Bihar, sitting Lok Sabha member Danish Ali (who was previously suspended by the Bahujan Samaj Party), former Lok Sabha member Chowdhary Lal Singh from Jammu, and BJP MLA Jai Prakash Bhai Patel from Jharkhand.
The announcement of their joining was made through separate press conferences, attended by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charges. This move aimed to dispel the perception that people are only leaving the Congress party, as highlighted by Pawan Khera, chairman of Congress’ publicity wing.
Additionally, sitting Lok Sabha member from Assam, Abdul Khaleque, who had initially resigned from the party after being denied a ticket to contest from the Barpeta seat, later withdrew his resignation after a meeting with party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Among the new recruits, Chowdhary Lal Singh, a former two-term Congress MP who joined the BJP in 2014, has attracted attention due to controversies, particularly regarding his support. Singh had later formed the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) before merging it with the Congress.
Pappu Yadav’s induction into the Congress is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position in Bihar’s Seemanchal region. He formally merged his Jan Adhikar Party with the Congress during his induction at the AICC headquarters, accompanied by his son Sarthak Ranjan and other party leaders.
Yadav expressed his motivation for joining the Congress as a fight against “dictatorship” in the country to uphold democracy and the Constitution. He praised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, emphasizing their efforts in addressing the concerns of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and advocating for a caste census.
Mohan Prakash, the Congress affairs in-charge for Bihar, was also present during the announcement, where Yadav expressed his commitment to strengthening the Congress and contributing to its success in the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
