16.05.2024: As the fifth and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra approaches, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a major campaign roadshow in Mumbai to rally support for BJP candidates. The roadshow, starting from Ashok Silk Mills in Ghatkopar (West) and ending at Prashavnath Chowk in Ghatkopar (East), witnessed enthusiastic crowds greeting the Prime Minister.
The roadshow took place just five days before polling in Mumbai, passing through key BJP strongholds in Ghatkopar. The event highlighted the BJP’s efforts to consolidate its voter base in Mumbai city and its outlying areas.
BJP’s Litmus Test in Maharashtra
This election phase is crucial for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as it faces a significant challenge in retaining its stronghold. The party’s decision to ally with Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), alongside Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will be put to the test.
Piyush Goyal’s Response to Opposition’s Criticism
Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP’s candidate from Mumbai North, addressed criticisms from the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which labeled him an outsider. Goyal dismissed these claims, asserting his deep roots in Mumbai. “There can be nobody more Mumbaikar than me,” he declared during his roadshow, countering the “outsider” remarks made by his opponents.
Campaign Momentum Builds
The BJP’s star campaigner, PM Modi, drew large crowds, reflecting strong support ahead of the final voting phase. His presence in Mumbai underscores the party’s strategic push to secure as many seats as possible in the competitive electoral landscape.
