The Election Commission has directed ex-cricketer Yusuf Pathan, running as a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate in Baharampur, West Bengal, to refrain from using images of India’s 2011 World Cup victory and the national flag during his Lok Sabha campaign. This decision follows a complaint filed by the state Congress, alleging a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

According to sources at the West Bengal CEO’s office, the EC carefully assessed the complaint and instructed Pathan to remove all related photographs and posters from the Baharampur constituency. Additionally, he was instructed not to utilize the national flag in his campaign activities.

In response to the EC’s directives, TMC workers began removing the specified posters on Friday night. The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee had urged strict action against Pathan, emphasizing that showcasing images of the 2011 World Cup-winning team constituted a serious MCC violation.

Pathan defended himself by stating that he had not personally put up any posters and that his supporters were responsible. He insisted that his victory in the World Cup was achieved through hard work. The Lok Sabha elections for Baharampur are scheduled for May 13, with results expected on June
