03.05.2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stern rebuke on Thursday, denouncing a call for “vote jihad” by a constituent of the INDIA bloc as an affront to democracy and the Constitution. He expressed dismay over the remarks made by Maria Alam, a Samajwadi Party candidate and the niece of Congress stalwart Salman Khurshid, during a rally in Uttar Pradesh. Modi emphasized that such a statement was particularly jarring coming from a person hailing from an educated Muslim family, rather than someone with a madrassa education.

While addressing crowds during his campaign in Gujarat, PM Modi also highlighted a former Pakistani minister’s praise for Rahul Gandhi on a certain issue, viewing it as indicative of Pakistan’s desire to see a weakened Indian government under Gandhi’s leadership. He remarked on Pakistan’s “weeping” over the perceived decline of the Congress party in India, citing Fawad Hussain Chaudhry of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sharing a video of Rahul Gandhi with the comment “Rahul on fire…” as an example of this sentiment.

This condemnation by PM Modi underscores the gravity with which political statements and actions are perceived, especially when they touch on sensitive issues like electoral integrity and national sovereignty.
