06.05.2024: Actress Kangana Ranaut, a BJP candidate, recently made headlines for mistakenly targeting her party colleague Tejasvi Surya instead of the intended opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav during an election rally. This blunder sparked a controversy, drawing attention to the intricacies of political campaigning.

During the rally in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Ranaut veered off course while criticizing RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, inadvertently mentioning Tejasvi Surya, the BJP’s MP from Bengaluru South. This mix-up highlighted the challenge of navigating similar-sounding names in the heat of political discourse.

Adding fuel to the fire, Ranaut also took shots at the Congress, including past leaders like Motilal Nehru, leading to a formal complaint filed by the party with the Election Commission. Her scathing remarks about Nehru and the Congress’s alleged dynastic rule drew sharp reactions, with Congress leaders calling for fact-checking and questioning her credentials for receiving a BJP ticket.

The focus of Ranaut’s criticism has primarily been on Vikramaditya Singh and Rahul Gandhi, her opponents in Mandi from the Congress party. She accused Nehru of rising to power questionably and painted a stark contrast between what she termed a “government of ascetics” (referring to the BJP) and a “government of landlords” (referring to the Congress).

In response, Congress representatives urged Ranaut to verify her statements and address the issue of dynastic politics within her own party. As the political drama unfolds, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on June 1 will determine the fate of candidates like Ranaut in constituencies like Mandi.
