16.04.2024 : Jordanian King Abdullah II recently emphasized his nation’s stance of not becoming a battleground in the conflict between Israel and Iran. This declaration comes after Jordan intercepted missiles and drones during an Iran-initiated attack on Israel over the weekend.
In a statement, King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan’s dedication to preserving its security and sovereignty as top priorities. He clarified that Jordan’s actions were aimed at safeguarding its own borders rather than taking sides in external conflicts.
During the attack, Jordan, along with other nations, assisted Israel in countering missiles, rockets, and drones launched by Iran and its allies. This support resulted in the interception of most projectiles, limiting damage and casualties in Israel.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also weighed in, urging the international community to prevent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from diverting attention from Gaza by escalating tensions with Iran. Safadi highlighted Iran’s response indicating a desire to avoid further escalation.
Despite the limited impact of Iran’s attack on Israel, tensions remain high, with Iran warning Jordan of potential targeting in the future. This underscores the delicate geopolitical situation in the region and Jordan’s efforts to maintain neutrality while prioritizing its own security interests.
