07.07.2024: WWE legend John Cena has announced his retirement from in-ring competition in 2025, marking the end of his illustrious wrestling career. Cena made this surprising announcement during WWE Money in the Bank in Toronto, Canada.

The Announcement

Entering the ring with a towel that read “The Last Time Is Now” and a shirt emblazoned with “John Cena Farewell Tour 2025,” Cena addressed the crowd, reflecting on his two-decade journey in WWE. He said, “I’ve been in the WWE for over two decades and in that time, I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town no doubt, but I have also seen true hardship, that’s when no one knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated and hardcore fans stand by your side.”

Cena highlighted the unwavering support from Canadian fans, stating, “Whether the WWE is hot or cold, Canadians always show up.”

Farewell Tour Details

The 16-time world champion revealed that his final matches will take place at the 2025 Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. Additionally, Cena expressed his desire to be involved when WWE Raw moves to Netflix in January.

A Storied Career

John Cena debuted in WWE in June 2002 and quickly rose to become one of the company’s most decorated superstars. He was the face of WWE through the ‘Ruthless Aggression’ and PG eras. Since 2018, Cena has taken on a more part-time role to focus on his burgeoning film career, following in the footsteps of his rival, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Despite his reduced schedule, Cena made notable appearances, including a memorable cameo at WrestleMania 40, where he helped Cody Rhodes win the WWE Championship.

Fan Reactions

Cena’s retirement announcement has left fans emotional and hopeful for a fitting end to his career. Many wish for a dream-like conclusion that honors his contributions to WWE and the wrestling world.
