Joe Biden Stands Still During Juneteenth Celebration at the White House
11.06.2024: A recent video of US President Joe Biden standing motionless during a Juneteenth event has sparked discussions online. The footage, shared on X by Dom Lucre, captures President Biden standing still for over 20 seconds while Vice President Kamala Harris and others around him dance to the music. Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd, noticed the moment and offered a supportive gesture to the president.
The incident occurred before President Biden’s speech, where he seemed to slur his words, leading to further scrutiny. This follows a Wall Street Journal report highlighting concerns about President Biden’s cognitive health, which the White House has vehemently defended, asserting his capability as a leader.
The Juneteenth celebration featured performances by music legends Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. During the event, President Biden addressed ongoing issues of racial inequality, warning of “old ghosts” in new disguises aiming to restrict freedoms, a veiled reference to some Republican rivals.
The event took place as the 2024 presidential election approaches, with Black voters expected to play a pivotal role. In the 2020 election, Biden secured 91% of Black voters. Former President Donald Trump claims increasing support among Black voters, which could impact the upcoming election.
The Juneteenth concert, hosted by comedian Roy Wood Jr., highlighted key policy achievements of the Biden administration, such as capping insulin prices and forgiving student debt. In 2021, President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday, commemorating the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned of their freedom.
