12.05.2024: The Indian Consulate in New York has made a significant announcement, declaring its commitment to serve the public by remaining open every day of the year, including weekends and holidays, for handling genuine emergencies.
In a recent press release, the Consulate General of India, New York, stated that it will now operate from 2 pm to 4 pm on all holidays, starting from May 10, to cater specifically to emergency requirements.
The Consulate emphasized that this extended service is exclusively for individuals facing genuine emergencies and not for regular consular services. To ensure efficient handling of emergency cases, the Consulate urged applicants to contact their emergency helpline number: 1-917-815- 7066 before visiting the Consulate. This preliminary step helps in verifying the necessary supporting documents and confirming the emergency nature of the requested service, ensuring that it cannot wait until the next working day.
It’s important to note that this service is primarily intended for emergency travel documents such as Emergency Visa, Emergency Certificate (for same-day travel to India), and the transportation of mortal remains on the same day.
Applicants availing emergency services will be subject to an emergency service fee, following the Consulate’s established practice. This initiative reflects the Consulate’s dedication to providing swift and essential assistance to individuals facing urgent situations while upholding the standards of consular services.
