01.05.2024: In the latest Indian sports news, Paris 2024-bound sailor Nethra Kumanan was honored by SRM Institute of Science and Technology, while Indian youth boxers made their mark at the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Nethra Kumanan, a Tamil Nadu sailor, was felicitated by SRM IST with a cheque of INR 25 lakh for her achievement in qualifying for the Paris Olympics. She expressed gratitude for the college’s support during her sailing journey, including flexible exam arrangements.
On the boxing front, four Indian youth boxers—Aryan, Yashwardhan Singh, Priyanshu, and Sahil—secured spots in the semifinals at the ASBC Championships. Aryan kicked off with a decisive win, followed by impressive performances from Yashwardhan, Priyanshu, and Sahil, sealing their victories with referee stoppage decisions.
In other updates, more Indian boxers are set to compete in quarterfinals and semifinals across different weight categories, showcasing India’s strong presence in the tournament, which features over 390 boxers from 24 countries.
