Indian-Origin Man Arrested for Shooting Nepali Student During Robbery in US
A tragic incident unfolded in Houston, Texas, where a 21-year-old student from Nepal, Muna Pandey, was shot and killed during a robbery at her apartment. The alleged perpetrator, identified as 52-year-old Bobby Sinh Shah, an Indian-origin man, has been arrested and charged with murder.
The horrifying event took place on Monday around 5:30 PM when police discovered Pandey’s body inside her apartment. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The police were alerted by an anonymous call to the apartment complex, which led to the grim discovery.
Just two days after the incident, Houston police released a photo of Shah captured on CCTV, leaving Pandey’s apartment. He was apprehended later that day during a routine traffic stop and subsequently charged with her murder.
Muna Pandey had moved to the United States in 2021 to pursue her studies at Houston Community College. According to a GoFundMe page created to support her family, Pandey’s mother had been desperately trying to contact her daughter for days before her body was found. The Nepalese Association of Houston shared that Pandey was an only child, and her mother’s concern grew when Muna’s phone went offline after Saturday night.
In the aftermath of this tragic loss, the Nepalese Association of Houston is collaborating with the Nepal Consulate to arrange travel for Pandey’s mother to Houston, where she will be able to perform the final rites for her daughter. The GoFundMe page, which has already raised nearly $30,000, is helping cover the costs of Muna’s funeral and her mother’s travel expenses.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the Nepali community in Houston, as they come together to support Muna Pandey’s grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
