29.04.2024: South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is facing scrutiny and backlash after revealing in her upcoming book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move American Forward,” that she killed an unruly dog and a goat. The book, set to be released on May 7, has already stirred controversy as excerpts about the incidents have surfaced.

Noem’s account includes the story of Cricket, a wirehaired pointer she was training for pheasant hunting. The Governor recounts how Cricket’s behavior led to the decision to euthanize the dog, citing South Dakota law regarding dogs that attack and kill livestock.

Defending her actions, Noem emphasized her commitment to responsibility, whether in ranching or politics, stating, “Even if it’s hard and painful, I followed the law and was being a responsible parent, dog owner, and neighbor.”

However, the revelations have sparked outrage on social media, with many expressing their disapproval of the Governor’s actions. President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign also joined the conversation, highlighting the controversy alongside a photo of Noem with former President Donald Trump.

This is not the first time Noem has attracted national attention, as she previously made headlines for her involvement in the state’s anti-meth campaign and for sharing an infomercial-style video about cosmetic dental surgery she received out-of-state.

As the discussion around Noem’s book intensifies, it raises broader questions about ethics, responsibility, and public perception, particularly in the realm of political leadership.
