Lahore: Political Adviser to Imran Khan Abducted

20.06.2024: In a shocking development, Ghulam Shabbir, the political adviser to jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, has reportedly been kidnapped by unknown individuals in Lahore. This incident, reported by Pakistan’s Express Tribune newspaper, has raised serious concerns about the safety of political figures in the region.

Details of the Abduction

According to the FIR registered at the Kahna police station by Shabbir’s son Bilal, the adviser left his residence in Lahore’s Khayaban-e-Amin late at night and was en route to Islamabad. Unfortunately, further details about the abduction remain scarce.

Connection to Shahbaz Gill

Ghulam Shabbir is also the elder brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill, adding another layer of complexity to this alarming situation.

Imran Khan’s Legal Battles

Imran Khan, the former cricketer-turned-politician, has been incarcerated since August last year. He faces convictions in several of the nearly 200 cases filed against him following his ouster in April 2022.

Political Turmoil in Pakistan

In May 2022, Khan launched a march from Lahore to Islamabad aiming to overthrow the coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif, which came to power after Khan was removed from office through a vote of no confidence.

Key Points:

This incident highlights the ongoing political instability and security concerns in Pakistan. The abduction of a close adviser to Imran Khan underscores the volatile environment that political figures and their associates are currently navigating.
