Priyal Yadav’s Inspiring Journey from Academic Failure to Deputy Collector

09.06.2024: In an inspiring story of resilience and determination, Priyal Yadav, a farmer’s daughter who once failed in Class 11, has risen to the prestigious position of deputy collector. Priyal secured the sixth rank in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) examination 2021, with the results announced recently.

Overcoming Early Setbacks

Despite being a class topper until Class 10, Priyal faced a significant setback when she failed physics in Class 11. “I was a class topper till Class 10. However, due to pressure from relatives, I opted for physics, chemistry, and mathematics in Class 11 despite a lack of interest in these subjects and failed physics,” the 27-year-old shared. This failure, however, was the “first and last” in her academic life.

Academic Successes and Career Progression

Priyal’s academic journey saw remarkable achievements following her initial setback. She secured the 19th rank in the MPPSC exam in 2019, earning her the post of district registrar. In the 2020 MPPSC exam, she achieved the 34th rank, leading to her selection as an assistant commissioner in the cooperative department.

Currently posted as the district registrar in Indore, Priyal’s persistence paid off once again as she secured the sixth rank in the MPPSC examination 2021, qualifying her for the deputy collector position.

Supportive Family Background

Priyal’s father is a farmer, and her mother is a housewife. She hails from a rural area where societal norms often dictate that girls marry young. However, Priyal’s parents provided her with unwavering support and the freedom to pursue her education. “My parents did not pressure me to get married and gave me complete freedom to pursue my studies,” Priyal remarked.

Future Aspirations

With her current achievements, Priyal now aims to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. She plans to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams while serving as a deputy collector.

Selection and Recruitment Details

According to an official, Priyal was among the top 10 candidates selected for the deputy collector post in the MPPSC examination 2021. The MPPSC 2021 examination advertised 290 posts. Due to a pending case in the Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding a 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in government jobs, the selection results for 87 percent of the posts have been declared. The remaining 13 percent will be announced following the court’s verdict.
