Chandrababu Naidu Announces Amaravati as Sole Capital of Andhra Pradesh
11.06.2024: In a significant political development, TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu announced that Amaravati will be the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. This declaration came just a day before his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of the state.
During a joint meeting with TDP, BJP, and Janasena legislators, Naidu was unanimously elected as the NDA leader in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. “In our government, there will be no games under the guise of three capitals. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital,” Naidu firmly stated.
Naidu initially proposed Amaravati as the capital during his tenure as the first Chief Minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2019. However, his vision faced challenges in 2019 when the TDP lost power to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP, which introduced the concept of three capitals for the state.
The recent landslide victory of the NDA alliance, comprising TDP, BJP, and Janasena, in the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections, has reinvigorated Naidu’s Amaravati capital city project. The alliance secured a commanding majority, winning 164 assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats, which has paved the way for this decisive move.
