29.04.2024: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi as the venues for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025, emphasizing its commitment to hosting the tournament within the country despite ongoing discussions about a potential ‘hybrid model’ to accommodate India’s participation.
Scheduled tentatively for February-March next year, the Champions Trophy marks a significant event in international cricket, with the last edition held in England in 2017.
While India’s participation remains unconfirmed, speculation suggests that the ICC may consider a ‘Hybrid Model,’ hosting India’s matches at a neutral venue if necessary due to government clearance issues. The ICC has clarified that it will respect government policies regarding travel and participation in sporting events.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, speaking at a press conference in Lahore, expressed confidence in Pakistan’s readiness to host a successful tournament. He highlighted ongoing discussions with the ICC’s security team and plans for stadium upgrades to enhance the overall experience for players and fans.
Despite challenges such as sub-standard facilities at current venues, including Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Naqvi outlined plans for international companies to bid for stadium upgrade projects. The goal is to improve infrastructure within a tight timeframe of four to five months before the tournament begins.
The PCB’s firm stance on maintaining the tournament’s integrity without alterations to accommodate India reflects its determination to showcase Pakistan as a premier destination for international cricket events.
