08.04.2024: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is currently observing ‘Upvas Diwas’ – a daylong collective fast – to protest the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case. The party’s leaders and workers are gathering at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Punjab’s Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, to undertake this mass fast, according to Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai.

Discussing the significance of this campaign, AAP leader Sandeep Pathak stated, “Fasting purifies the mind and soul. Today, we pray for Arvind Kejriwal to be granted the strength and blessings to continue his struggle.”

Delhi minister and party leader Atishi expressed the deep affection the people of Delhi have for Arvind Kejriwal, seeing him not just as a CM but as a son or brother. She emphasized the widespread desire for Kejriwal’s bail, questioning the lack of evidence linking AAP leaders to any liquor scam despite investigations by the BJP’s ED and CBI.

The nationwide collective fast, according to Rai, aims to garner maximum public support for Kejriwal’s cause. He urged those against Kejriwal’s arrest and in favor of preserving democracy to observe fasts collectively at various levels of society.

“This is not just Kejriwal’s fight; it’s about saving our country and its democracy from oppression and excesses,” Rai emphasized.

Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED last month in an excise policy-related money laundering case has sparked nationwide attention, with him being remanded to judicial custody until April 15th.
