The recent meeting between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and renowned industrialist Ratan Tata in Mumbai marked a pivotal moment in the state’s journey towards becoming a global semiconductor hub.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude on behalf of Assam’s citizens, Chief Minister Sarma acknowledged Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran for their unwavering commitment to this game-changing investment. The upcoming Tata semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad is poised to not only place Assam prominently on the world semiconductor map but also catalyze unprecedented economic growth in East India.
The discussions during the meeting also centered around the establishment of a Skill Development Centre within the semiconductor facility premises. This initiative aims to empower youths from the North East by offering specialized courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, thus equipping them with the skills needed to secure employment opportunities within the Jagiroad unit.

The establishment of Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (“TSAT”) in Assam, with its impressive capacity of producing 48 million chips per day, underscores the magnitude of this venture. This facility, constructed at a cost of ₹27,000 crore, represents a significant milestone in Assam’s journey towards technological excellence and economic prosperity.
