22.04.2024 : In a recent development, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s plea to consult his doctor via video conferencing, marking another setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief. The decision was made by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who declined Kejriwal’s request for 15-minute virtual meetings with his doctor, even in the presence of his wife.

The court, however, took a different stance on Kejriwal’s insulin-related concerns. It mandated the establishment of a medical board comprising specialist doctors from AIIMS to evaluate Kejriwal’s need for insulin. The court specified that the AIIMS panel, under the guidance of the institute’s director, would determine whether Kejriwal should receive insulin treatment.

Kejriwal’s ongoing health issues have been a point of contention. He recently addressed the superintendent of Tihar jail, where he is detained, expressing his daily requirement for insulin. Kejriwal’s letter to the superintendent contradicted a statement by Tihar administration, which claimed that during a video conference with AIIMS specialists, the topic of insulin was neither raised by Kejriwal nor suggested by the doctors.

Accusing the Tihar administration of issuing “false and misleading” statements due to “political pressure,” Kejriwal’s letter underscores the complexities surrounding his medical care while in custody. Despite his persistent requests for insulin, the response from Tihar jail authorities regarding these allegations remains pending.

Kejriwal’s legal battles have kept him confined since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to Delhi’s former excise policy. As this saga continues, the outcome of his medical evaluation and subsequent treatment remains a focal point amidst the legal proceedings.
