01.05.2024: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to contest against him in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. Banerjee, often seen as the TMC’s number two, made a bold statement that he would retire from active politics if he lost.

During an election rally for TMC’s Mathurapur candidate Bapi Halder, Banerjee laid out three options for Shah to make him leave politics: releasing the state’s dues of ₹1.64 lakh crore, releasing funds for the PM Awas Yojana, or contesting against him and defeating him in the upcoming elections.

Banerjee’s challenge comes amidst a heated political atmosphere in West Bengal, with accusations and counter-accusations flying between the TMC and the BJP. Responding to Shah’s earlier remarks about Mamata Banerjee wanting him to be the next chief minister, Banerjee emphasized the difference in political motives, accusing BJP leaders of being “outsiders” and urging voters not to support them.

The TMC leader didn’t stop there; he also criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his rally, labeling him as the “biggest failure” in governance due to incidents like Unnao, Hathras, and Lakhimpur Kheri under his tenure.

Banerjee’s challenge and strong rhetoric have added fuel to the already intense political scenario in West Bengal. With elections around the corner, his statements have become a focal point of discussions, raising questions about the future dynamics of Bengal politics.

As the countdown to the elections begins, Banerjee has promised further revelations in the coming days, hinting at potential bombshells that could shape the electoral landscape in the state. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving political saga.
