21.07.2024: Sonu Sood recently took to social media to address the controversy surrounding his viral tweet concerning the Kanwar Yatra directive. The Bollywood actor found himself embroiled in a heated debate following his comments on Uttar Pradesh government’s requirement for food vendors along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their names prominently.

In a statement on his official social media account, Sonu Sood clarified his stance, emphasizing that he does not condone any act of food contamination, asserting, “I have never justified those who spit in food. It is their character that needs to change, and they should face severe consequences for such actions. However, let’s not lose sight of our humanity. The time spent arguing could be better used helping those in need!”

He also expressed his admiration for the work of the Uttar Pradesh government, stating, “Let me clarify, I am a staunch supporter of the initiatives undertaken by the UP government.”

Sonu Sood’s comments sparked widespread discussion online, drawing reactions from various quarters including political figures like BJP’s Kangana Ranaut, who took a jab at the actor’s viewpoint. Reacting to criticism, Sonu Sood responded with a call for unity, remarking, “Every home in UP and Bihar is like family to me. Regardless of state, city, or religion, if anyone requires assistance, my door is always open.”

The controversy arose when a video surfaced showing a person allegedly spitting on dough while preparing food, coinciding with the Uttar Pradesh government’s directive for shops on the Kanwar Yatra route to display their proprietors’ identities. The incident ignited a debate on social media platforms.

In response to a user suggesting sending the contaminated food to Sonu Sood, the actor drew a parallel with a mythological anecdote, remarking, “If Lord Ram could consume Shabri’s berries, despite their perceived imperfection, why can’t I? Let us combat aggression with compassion. Humanity must prevail. Jai Shri Ram.”

For context, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated the display of shop owner identities along Kanwar routes to uphold the sanctity of the pilgrim’s journey.

Sonu Sood’s efforts to clarify his position have generated mixed reactions online, underscoring the complexities of balancing public statements with humanitarian gestures in today’s social media-driven world.
