Vadodara: Cricketer-Turned-Politician Yusuf Pathan Fights Encroachment Allegations

21.06.2024: Cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan has approached the Gujarat High Court following allegations of encroachment on a plot owned by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. This legal battle began after former Vadodara BJP councillor Vijay Pawar raised concerns on June 13, accusing Pathan of illegally occupying the municipal plot adjacent to his residence.

Legal Proceedings and Arguments

Pathan’s lawyer presented arguments before the Gujarat High Court on Thursday. Vadodara Municipal Corporation standing committee chairman Sheetal Mistry commented on the situation, stating that the matter is now in the court’s hands, and the outcome remains to be seen.

Background of the Dispute

The controversy centers around a plot located next to the Pathan family bungalow in Vadodara’s Tandlaja area, specifically the “TOWN PLANNING 22 FINAL PLOT 90” reserved by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation. In 2012, Yusuf Pathan requested the plot from the corporation to build a stable. While the corporation initially approved the request, the state government in Gandhinagar rejected it in 2014.

Allegations of Illegal Occupation

Vijay Pawar has accused Yusuf Pathan of occupying the plot by constructing a compound wall around it. He has written to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee Chairman and Municipal Commissioner, demanding the removal of this illegal occupation and the return of the plot to the corporation’s possession.

Municipal Corporation’s Response

In response to these allegations, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation issued a notice and assured that a decision would be made soon. On June 15, another Vadodara councilor, Nitin Donga, submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner, demanding a case of land grabbing be registered against Pathan. Donga also alleged that Pathan had falsely claimed ownership of part of the corporation plot in his property declaration affidavit filed with his MP form.

The Municipal Commissioner confirmed that notices have been issued and further proceedings are ongoing.

As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes are on the Gujarat High Court to determine the outcome of these serious allegations against Yusuf Pathan. The case underscores the complexities of land disputes and the importance of legal resolutions in such matters.
