14.05.2024: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken a firm stance following reports of an alleged assault on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. The NCW announced its plans to send an inquiry team to investigate the incident and has demanded a swift response from the Delhi Police.
In a statement released on Monday, the NCW expressed its commitment to ensuring justice in this matter. “MP Rajya Sabha Smt Swati Maliwal reportedly assaulted at Delhi CM’s residence. The National Commission for Women (NCW) vows action, demanding justice from Delhi Police and sending an inquiry team. Perpetrators must be held accountable. NCW will be sending a formal letter to Delhi Police to send an ATR in this matter in 3 days,” the NCW said.
Maliwal, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), lodged a complaint at the Civil Lines police station alleging that a close aide of Kejriwal assaulted her on the chief minister’s orders at his official residence. However, the police have not yet received a formal complaint regarding the incident.
The alleged assailant, identified as Bibhav Kumar from Kejriwal’s personal staff, is at the center of the controversy. The police were informed of the incident through a PCR call at 9:34 AM, after which Maliwal visited the police station but did not file a formal complaint immediately.
“We received a PCR call at 9:34 AM wherein the caller said that she has been assaulted inside the CM residence. Accordingly, local police & SHO responded to the call. After some time, MP Swati Maliwal came to the police station civil lines. No complaint was given by her. In this matter, no complaint has been received till now,” said DCP (North) Manoj Meena.
The police register entry noted, “Lady caller is saying that I am at CM residence. He instructed his PA to attack me,” shedding light on the details of the alleged assault.
It’s worth mentioning that Bibhav Kumar faced scrutiny recently when the Delhi vigilance department dismissed him from the position of Kejriwal’s personal secretary due to an “illegal appointment.”
The NCW’s intervention underscores the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and swift action to address the allegations made by Swati Maliwal.
