30.04.2024: In a recent turn of events, the Indore Lok Sabha seat witnessed a significant shift as Akshay Kanti Bam, the Congress candidate, withdrew his nomination and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This move has been viewed as a virtual walkover for the BJP candidate and current MP Shankar Lalwani, marking a major setback for the Congress in Madhya Pradesh just before the third phase of polling.
The decision by Bam to switch sides has not been without controversy. The Congress has criticized the move, alleging that it poses a threat to democracy in the country. This development comes shortly after a local court issued directions to add IPC Section 307 (related to attempt to murder) in a land dispute case dating back to 2007, involving Mr. Bam and his father.
The political landscape in Indore has thus experienced a notable shift, highlighting the complexities and dynamics of electoral politics in the region.
