29.04.2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met his wife Sunita Kejriwal and AAP cabinet minister Atishi in Tihar jail, marking a pivotal moment after initial denials of access to the political figures. The Aam Aadmi Party revealed that Sunita Kejriwal, previously barred from meeting her husband, was finally granted permission on Monday.
During the visit, Atishi shared that Kejriwal inquired about the distribution of books to schoolchildren and the availability of medicine supplies in mohalla clinics when asked about his well-being.
Looking ahead, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to meet Kejriwal on Tuesday.
Earlier, Tihar jail officials had indicated permission for Atishi’s visit while denying access to Sunita Kejriwal. However, a Tihar jail source clarified that arrangements were in place for Sunita Kejriwal’s meeting, emphasizing the adherence to protocols.
The AAP disputed these claims, asserting that both names were submitted for a meeting on April 29 but permission was granted only to one, alleging partiality influenced by the BJP government and condemning the perceived lack of humanity.
Taking a proactive stance, Sunita Kejriwal recently participated in a roadshow on behalf of AAP candidate Mahabal Mishra from West Delhi constituency, rallying support and highlighting her husband’s prolonged detention without a guilty verdict. She criticized the prolonged investigation and called for safeguarding the nation against what she termed as “dictatorship,” implicitly targeting the ruling BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Expressing concern, she noted that Kejriwal, a diabetic for 22 years, had been denied his insulin medication while in jail.
The AAP further mobilized support through the ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ walkathon, part of the ‘Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se’ campaign.
