13.05.2024: As the Lok Sabha elections unfold, today marks the commencement of the fourth phase of voting in 96 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 10 states and Union Territories. With 1,717 candidates vying for victory, this phase is pivotal in shaping the political landscape.
The voting process encompasses all 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh, 13 in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, four in Odisha, eight in West Bengal, and one in Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, this phase includes the first major election in Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, with the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency participating.
Simultaneously, voting is underway for all 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 28 in Odisha, adding depth to the electoral process. To ensure a smooth voting experience, over 19 lakh polling officials are deployed across 1.92 lakh polling stations, catering to over 17.70 crore eligible voters.
Some of the prominent candidates in this phase include Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Union minister Giriraj Singh, TMC’s dynamic leader Mohua Moitra, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former cricketer Yusuf Pathan of TMC, and Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila, among others.
